A PET STORY: Arrival!
The pet story started in a small house on the edge of the town. And there lived a young family by the name Thompsons. They had two little children who were understandably full of life and energy. One sunny afternoon, as Mrs. Thompson cleaned the outer part of her house, heard a knock on that wooden gate. Opening up she realized inside there was a squawking and chirping multi-colored parrot on the front doorstep. This was a Parrot, with vivid shades of green, blue and yellow in her feathers. The inquisitive bird who apparently wished to enter brought a smile to Mrs. Thompson’s face. Mrs. Thompson readily accepted the parrot into their home and her two children Emily and Jack, were overjoyed.
a talented parrot:
They called her Polly and made sure to get her settled in faster. Polly soon became a very welcome addition to the Thompson family, chirping away and playing which brought laughter. She would sit on the shoulders of children and talk to them as they played, chirping at their games while half-heartedly “laughing” just like any child.
However, Polly was no common parrot. She was very inquisitive, and her mind worked quickly to learn new words that she picked up with astonishing speed. Soon Polly was jabbering in a blend of squawks and English to the astonishment of the Thompsons. And with that Polly made herself at home and became part of the family, spreading happiness and laughter wherever she went. Unknown to the Thompsons, Polly’s new gift of words would immediately set off even more adventures for them in days ahead.
A PET STORY: Polly’s Linguistic Journey!
While Polly settled into her new home with the Thompson family, she became eager to learn and develop more. Every day she amazed the family enough to be present with her capacity for mimicking human speech. Polly loved to chat and chattered away all day as Mrs. Thompson had always wanted a talking parrot and spent hours teaching Polly new words and sentences! Polly struggled, but her Momma would say each word slowly and Polly tried to copy them until she got it.
Polly, on the other hand, was a fast learner and rapidly learned new words and phrases. Before long, she learned to give the family a chipper “Hello!” and say we love you with a sugary “Goodbye.!”. She learned more and more phrases; from a simple hello to funny little sayings. However, Polly was insatiable as far curiosity goes and wanted to go beyond of just ready phrases. She listened carefully whenever the family spoke and laughed to learn new words and phrases.
It wasn’t long before Polly was making sentences of her own, which amazed the Thompsons. With each new word in her vocabulary, Polly developed a greater understanding of the world and herself. She won a reputation for her acerbic wit. Polly, however, still had a long way to travel. Year by year, as she came to know a new word and gained more confidence with her language skills, that curious little parrot was determined to master the ways of human speech and fulfil an entirely different purpose than what had been foreseen.
A Pet Story: Polly’s Enduring Legacy!
Over the years, Polly has remained a cherished member of the Thompson family and keeps them all laughing each and every day. Her playful personality and ability in mimicry endears her to everyone with whom she shares a home. Polly was a great talker, makes the family closer by talking one another over dinnertime and funniest smiles in their home.
She grew to be a dear friend of both Emily and Jack, watching over their happiest times and comforting them in trying times. But, the laughter that she brought into the home was probably Polly’s biggest legacy. Her sharp tongue and quick wit kept spirits high even in the depths of despair, as she subtly encouraged her family to take pleasure in life’s absurdity.
While I’m sure Polly’s feathers may have lost their luster and maybe her voice wasn’t as loud, she was just as spunky. Even after she might have died in the physical world her memory remained alive within the Thompson family. And how truly beautiful is love, laughter, family and a pet parrot together as one form of eternal bond. As they reflected on their experience of Polly with the family, it was clear to the Thompsons that they had been very lucky indeed. Because Polly had infused them with spirit, laughter and joy. Her legacy would persist within the stories told of her.
